Island Bay United was awarded a provisional licence by Capital Football to run a Talent Development Programme the 2019 season.
What is the Talent Development Programme?
The Talent Development Programme (TDP) is a year-long programme based around the philosophy and criteria set by NZ Football as part of their Youth Football Framework and is the replacement for the Federation System which is in the process of being phased out.
The programme’s goal is to provide those players in the footballing talent space with best practice development opportunities and a platform to realise their potential and knowledge of the game. As part of the requirements set out by NZ Football (and overseen by Capital Football) players are expected to meet a minimum number of weekly contact sessions over a 40-46 week period.
For the Island Bay United TDP players will need to commit to at least 3 sessions per week for terms 1 – 4 (with breaks during the school holidays).
To be eligible for selection for the National Age Group Tournament and to participate in the TDP league (in September and October) players need to be part of a TDP. This could, if selected, include 2 NAGT identification camps held by Capital Football in April & October.
How do I get involved?
Those interested in joining participate in a series of identification sessions at the start of the year. In 2019 we ran 6 sessions for each age group before offering places to selected players. If you missed the identification sessions and would like to be considered for future intake please email us on email@example.com.
The cost of attending the IBU TDP is $360 per term. The programme is cost neutral and it is our intention to reduce this cost where and when possible going forward.
Players are required to attend sessions in IBU TDP training uniform which consists of:
- 2 x Nike Park Tops – 1 x Black & 1 x Gold
- 2 x Nike Cushion Socks – 1 x Black & 1 x Gold
- Black Nike Park Shorts
- 1 x Sigma Rain Jacket
Once participation in the TDP is confirmed you will be provided with a squad number. Training gear can be purchased from the IBU Talent Centre Store – using access code IBTC19.
We understand that the costs might be a barrier for some families and we don’t want kids to miss out due to financial constrains. If these financial obligations are a material issue, please let us know in confidence and we will work with you to find a solution.
To maximise the use of our resources, and to be able to provide an adequate learning environment, the TDP training sessions will divided in two training groups:
- 2006 and 2005 together
- 2004, 2003 and 2002 together
At the discretion of our Coaching Director and the coaches there may well be player movement between these groups to ensure that player development is maximised.
Trainings will start on Tuesday 19 of February. Please see below for information regarding training schedule for Term 1.
