Many of you will have seen a recent announcement from Capital Football regarding the 2019 Talent Development Programme (TDP) where several clubs were identified as receiving a provisional Youth Licence.
Island Bay United is the club noted as working with Capital Football to address one very specific requirement. To be clear, we have not yet been awarded a provisional licence, but we hope to have this concluded by next week.
When applying for the TDP licence we were very keen to put together a TDP of the highest standard, that not only met but exceeded the requirements set by New Zealand Football. We are confident that we have accomplished that goal and are now working towards gaining the requisite qualifications for our coaches and Director of Football.
In the interim our TDP plans remain the same and we have already started Term 4 training, extending our Sharks Academy (grades 7-12) to include youth grades 13-17.
At the heart of our plan is our desire to develop home-grown talent into our top senior teams in both men and women, by providing organic pathways through the club. This will enable IBU to retain local talent, promoting them into national pathways, as well as building on and strengthening the senior club to enable it to compete with any other club in the greater Wellington region.
We believe that organic growth is the only way to be sustainable into the future.
Inside Right – Partner Provider
I am extremely pleased to advise that Island Bay United has partnered with Inside Right for our Talent Development Programme (TDP) starting immediately.
Inside Right is a football programme that has been running for nearly 3 years focused primarily at 13-15 year olds. In the past it has included 3 field sessions delivered by Matt Calcott and Mark Oates and strength and conditioning sessions delivered by HealthFit Collective.
We are very excited that Martin Garcia has also joined the IRFC staff with what now would be one of the strongest coaching combinations assembled in the region.
The Inside Right and IBU partnership creates a truly formidable coaching team and TDP.The official start date for TDP is Term 1 2019, however Island Bay United and Inside Right have kicked off the TDP early to give an opportunity for our players to continue training and playing over Term 4. We have also entered U15 and U17 teams in the inaugural Wellington Academy League that includes Kaizen, Phoenix, Olé and Karori Swifts, played at Wakefield Park on Friday nights in Term 4.
Term 4 Schedule
The programme is run out of Wakefield Park with 5 contacts per week:

- Thursday – Field Session 4.30pm to 6pm – Matt/Martin and Mark Oates (Keeper Coach)
